I have been on Metformin (regular) for over 12 years. I have been having terrible bouts of diarrhoe for over 8 months and simultaneously had recurring urinary infections, and been on several courses of antibiotics. Thought that the antibiotics had depleted my gut flora and that was the reason for the bowel upset. But doctor asked me to discontinue the metformin, as sometimes, although rare, people suddenly get "allergic" to it. Has anyone else had this problem. I do realise that some get tummy upsets when first starting metformin.
