Advert on tv - caulirice in a pouch.

Yes, it's okay but expensive - home made is best.

Mr Chook takes these pouches to work with curries or other casserole type meals to zap in his canteen microwave.

We noticed a home brand cauli rice on sale at Woolies when we were shopping two weeks ago.

There was no way I could pretend that was rice, so did not buy it. It would have been all right to chuck in a stew as a extra veggie.

Have you guys tried cauliflower rice with crème fraise.

@ickihun

I haven't seen the advert, but I have tried that brand of cauli rice and it's vile. Tasted really synthetic and unpleasant - so much so that I removed it from my plate and threw it away. And I love cauliflower! You'd be much better off making your own.

I might try one, just to compare to fresh.

If in pouch are they filled with preserves?

Maybe we'll see frozen cauliflour hash browns soon too then?
Maybe potato will become extinct or very very expensive due to fat tax in future?
All carbs in excess are harmful.
In the future carbs may be demonised like tobacco!

I have tried these nod they are disgusting I think although my daughter in law likes them.

We keep them for emrgencies (a ravening Mr B arriving home starving when i have no interest in cooking )

They are ok if tipped into other flavoursome foods, but pretty vile by themselves. Home made cauli rice is incredibly easy, tastes nicer, and a fraction of the price.

And i think the price on that brand is absurd. Rather like those packs of precooked microwave rice. All the expense is in the packaging.

Yes!! It alters the texture Vs other creams, while it should taste less sweet, I have too much garlic in mine to detect a taste change. I find creams better in a mash than a rice

The pouch of Indian Pilau Cauli Rice I have doesn't show any preservatives in the list of ingredients, which are:
Parcooked Cauliflower (93.7%), Dried Onion powder (2.3%), Dried Sultanas (1%), Vegetable Ghee, Cumin powder, Coriander Seed powder, Garlic powder, Ginger powder, Turmeric, Salt.

I haven't seen the tv advert either. I don't see most tv ads. I usually record most commercial tv programs, and fast forward through the ads when I watch the program. Or if I watch one 'live' I do something during the ad break.

But I did try the different varieties of Cauli Rice when they first went on sale last Summer. The only one I liked was the Indian Pilau one. I bought a dozen pouches when they were on offer in Waitrose for £1.
I didn't think much of the taste when microwaved in the pouch. But it is better if I fry it for a few minutes in Coconut Oil to dry it out. I add dessicated coconut to give it some texture, and add some spices like chilli powder or garam masala. It's quite good as a substitute for rice, with a curry.
I use the pouches as they can be kept for when I can't be bothered to cook, and can be prepared quickly to go with some curry from the freezer.
As I'm only cooking for myself, I don't want to prepare more than I can eat, before it goes off, so the pouches are handy.

I use the pilau ones to eat with curry. I like them but can't imagine them without a good sauce.

I do make my own cauliflower rice in the food processor but sometimes when I get in from work I just want to throw stuff together quickly and the food processor is such a pain to wash up after I've blitzed cauliflower in it. But then I'm lazy!

These pouches were on offer in Asda the other week, and I did try a couple of packets.

If you were hoping for a true cauliflower taste you'd have been disappointed, but as other posters have said, if you add other flavours they are fine to bulk out a meal.
Personally, I will make my own next time, but was worth experimenting to see.
