hi. My husband is Type 2. He’s rather in denial and hasn’t got into the habit of testing his blood sugars. When should he test ? How many times a day? Before or after meals etc. I tested my own blood today to try out the meter. My reading was 18.2 an hour after lunch which was a bit alarming. It was 6.2 before my next meal. Do you think I should be concerned? I am not diagnosed with Type 2. Any advice gratefully received.

I'd try again. If there was some residual foodstuff on your finger it could give a false reading. Also, please check the expiery date of the test strips.
Should you get such a number again, please see your doctor.

Regarding to your husband, is he willing to act upon the results of his testing? If he finds out certain foods make his blood sugar go high, would he eat less of those foods or skip them altogether? If so, I'd test right before a meal and then 2 hours later to see what that particular meal did to his blood sugar. That way you can slowly find out where best to make alterations in diet.

Here's a link to the basic information we like to give new members, very useful: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/basic-information-for-newly-diagnosed-diabetics.17088/

Good luck!
