Advice for a newbie.

It was on the midwifery side I refused to have the midwife in my home after having my daughter and when telling my consultant about her plan of care he told me I would be under him so never had to see her again the consultant raised concerns S's well and that midwife is no longer at the practice says it all
Yes it does. Nothing gets me worked up more than incompetent midwives. So glad you got to see the consultant and things turned out ok.

Hi I have had a few blood tests over the last few months mainly fasting glucose of 7.9 8.2 7.6 and more recently (weds) 6.9 I also had cholesterol test which when calling for results they said had been flagged and the hba1c I think she called it 46 again flagged but this is all they have said I don't know how bad it is I just wish they would stop taking blood and tell me if I can eat cake guilt free ;) thanks in advance
Yes, a border line HbA1c. Could be pre diabetes or dietary. My initial HbA1c was 112 mmol/mol which was awful but confirmed my diagnosis even further. Keep donating the precious red stuff for tests and stay well.

OK, that's helpful in that you can finally forget about support from that direction and take charge of your diabetes yourself, as many of us are doing. You'll certainly get more help from the forum than you've been getting from your surgery, and you have enough information I would have thought to decide what to do.

That would be a.great step in the right direction as you are receiving no help what so ever from your GP. At least that way you can be pro-active and get a little peace of mind.

Well got hold of a doctor today and he has said there's no action required frustrating to say the least
Was that a doctor at your current practice? How about contacting your local NHS to arrange a transfer to another practice?

You can make a lot of progress with home testing but ultimately you are going to need a relationship based on trust and mutual respect with a practice that has a number of competent doctors, diabetes or not.

Ok so should I purchase a testing kit and go through the motions of analysing my diet to see what spikes my glucose?
This is good. Here you are taking control. I hope you'll see quite quickly that you're not just going through the motions but doing something useful for yourself.
I DO NOT want to sound like a form master so I'll shut up

Thanks Yes I am writing to the central nhs board to outline everything and asked to register else where

That's brilliant well done a very courageous move. I also think purchasing a glucose meter and gathering some data would be useful to present to your new practice.

Good luck with taking on your GP surgery. I did it with mine 8 years ago, it started with sacking my midwife. In your letter I would site your previous consultant, name and and actions, the problems with your midwife and especially any NICE (National Institute for health and Care Excellence) guidelines for Gestational and Type2.

As an aside, The fact that they want to keep testing means they are monitoring you, they are spending a lot of money doing this and in light of 'Offical' Type2 treatment guidelines you can anticipate no useful help or actual detrimental advice to eat more carbs. Also you will be on a register and insurances in future will become a lot more expensive. Your on the forum now and I would look around, implement the BG lowering techniques and realise this is the long game, of you taking control of your clearly impaired glucose metabolism.

However as stated in another post, you have no faith that your GP surgery will act in your best health interests and you want to exercise your right to move to another GP surgery. (Ask around about other surgeries).

Note that if any harm comes from blatant disregard then lawful steps will be taken.

You do not want to be under another doctor at the surgery as you feel the environment is not one condusive to your health.

I would also CC the patient advocate service. Or if you feel that you have been mistreated then the General Medical Council.

Good luck
GC

I'm sure you are more knowledgeable then me oh wise one ;) I have ordered a meter so will do some trial and error on carbs etc and see how I go fingers crossed x

Many type 2's on here go for the Codefree meter because the testing strips are by far the cheapest. You can take a look here

http://www.homehealth-uk.com/medical/blood_glucose_monitor_testing.htm .

There is a discount code for ordering 5 or 10 boxes. (each box contains 50 strips)

5 packs 264086
10 packs 975833

Ordering 5 or 10 packs brings the cost down to £5.20 for 50 strips. Free postage.
