hello!
I am writing this message on behalf of my partner. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes almost 3 years ago it was really hard to begin with struggling to get his bs levels back down but we got there thankfully. Anyway he has grown increasingly concerned with the fact he can eat anything he likes and it doesn't effect his bs readings at all I mean literally doesn't flutter at all out of normal range. He has his hba1c and its always perfect and the diabetic doctor just says whatever you are doing keep doing it. We had always put it down to the 'honeymoon' period but the doctors don't seem to think it's this and quite frankly cannot tell us why it's happening and he's just lucky. Now don't get me wrong we are forever thankful that he isn't struggling but at the same time it's giving us a lot of questions about his diabetes. I hope this is the right place for this post and if I have put it in the wrong place in very sorry. Thank you
I should add that my worry is he will begin to slack with doing his readings etc if he feels there is no need to as he knows they won't be out. I hope this makes sense
He should always stick with bg testing and things can and do change.
As for anyone who is diabetic or not its not just a case of eating anything and everything as its important to stick to a healthy diet otherwise it can cause a whole host of other health-related problems, you should get your partner to join the forum himself Lucy.
Thank you for replying, when I say he eats whatever he likes he basically just carries on as usual before he was diagnosed. I have tried to get him to join the group but he's so stubborn and doesn't think it would help. I will try again to encourage him to join as I have been reading posts for a while now to try and get a better understanding of what it's like to be a diabetic and it has helped me considerably. Thank you again for replying.
Is he on insulin...? I'm a little confused I think... How did he get his numbers back into range? What made them diagnose him type 1? If he's on insulin does he carb count? Asking questions so we can help more
Wow what an incredibly lucky guy, firstly to have a caring partner and secondly to have such well controlled BG levels. How much insulin is he taking and is he carb counting ?
