I have just returned from a long holiday in the Staes wher I met a Diabetes councellor.

She seemed to be far more knowlegeable and enlightened than the Nurse at my clinic!!!

Here are a few things she told me and I just wonderd whether you guys agreed with this:-

Always take Gliclizide 30 minutes before food.
Always take metformin up to 2Hrs. after food
Use ground Flax seed sprinkled on your food to help reduce high BG.
Take Chromium Picolinate 200mcg to lower high peaks in BG levels.

Comments anyone??

Chris.

Chromium Picolinate is ANOTHER suppliment I've been researching. I'll be ordering some shortly.

Hi Chris.
Gliclazide may be useful to take before a meal as it stimulates the Pancreas to produce Insulin. Most people however stick to the official advice in the Patient Information Leaflet,
(quote) Gliclazide should be taken immediately after food, either with breakfast or the main meal of the day. (endquote)

Metformin is supposed to be taken with a glass of water during or after meals. (Again from PIL)
So, no I wouldn't wait 2 hrs to take it !

I personally do not use ANY supplements, so have no idea what they are useful for, if anything. Someone else may be able to help you there. What sort of qualifications did this 'Diabetes Counsellor' have, do you know ?

The gliclazide information is probably right. gives it and your digestion time to synchronise.
Personally I'd say persuade your doctor to give you something better. It's horrible stuff.
Metformin info good on timing.
Flax seeds will probably counteract constipation.
Chromium picololinate didn't work for me.
