My Daughter has type 1 and has only been diagnosed for 3 weeks, her blood sugars the last 3 nights have been off the scale of 33.5, during the day around 13- 20 on her blood testing machine, Her ketoacidosis reading an hour ago was 1.2 , Have phoned NHS24 and been told a nurse will call back within 2 hours. the problem is she has not a single testing strip of any of the blood sugar or keto and can't tell if its getting higher or lower .........any advice would be appreciated.

If you have no way of testing, the best course of action would be to take her to a & e. It is impossible to know what is going on with no strips and you can't make a correct decision as to how to treat the situation.

Yeah I agree without test strips you'll have no way of knowing if it's going up or down, nobody wants to go to hospital but I'll think you'll have to this time. Good luck x

this is all new to us and all what i have read says to give her insulin. but without the strips are really stuck as you say , will take her to a&e as nhs 24 have still not called after 1.5 hours , thanks very much for your input.

Defo take her to hospital how bad they haven't rang back either that's not good! Hope she is okay x

phoned nhs24 back and was more forceful with the situation and have a 4am appointment at a&e ,Saturday night and the hospital is busy, only another hour and a half to go but at least we will know whats happening and can get some strips off them until Monday when the doctors surgery is open. Thanks again for the advice and will let you know how it goes.
