Hi all! I am Type 2 and putting my life in order.

Would very much appreciate input from any of you knowledgable people out there in Diabetesland re, amongst other things, net carbs. I am very impressed with the threads advocating low carb (and high fat) diet and am determined to give it a go. However..... am I right in thinking:

that whatever level of carbs I settle on as a suitable number for me, can come from any source (not just overtly 'healthy' ones)? I am excluding vitamins and minerals here as I assume supplements can be a suitable source.

that the carbs that I consume for a day can be obtained from just one of my meals, and need not be spread out over the day's meals?

that to obtain a 'net' carbs figure I should deduct the listed fibre content from the carbohydrate content listed on the side of the pack?

that it does not matter whether the fibre content is listed as 'soluble' or 'insoluble' and that it just passes through anyway without affecting my readings?

Sorry if any or all of this has been answered before but I couldn't find it in the threads.

Best wishes and thanks

You are better with 'healthy' carbs as they also contain mictonutriants etc.The starchy carbs just convert 100% into glucose without any other benefits

that the carbs that I consume for a day can be obtained from just one of my meals, and need not be spread out over the day's meals?

Better to spread your carb level over several meals to prevent 'spikes' in your blood sugar levels by eating too much carbs at once.

that to obtain a 'net' carbs figure I should deduct the listed fibre content from the carbohydrate content listed on the side of the pack?

Just go with the total carb content on the packaging.Personally if it is more than 10/1oo I give it a miss!

that it does not matter whether the fibre content is listed as 'soluble' or 'insoluble' and that it just passes through anyway without affecting my readings?

Hana explains that one here

Sorry - I wasn't clear here - I meant to say that I am already foregoing the pleasures of pots, rice, pasta and most bread (already in contact with Fergus). Breakfast cereals or bananas for example I find particularly useful on training days.....

Point taken (should have realised that one myself..... klutz!)
