Good morning. About 18 months ago i was told i had pre diabetes after a ggt. Stupidly i didnt really stick to any diet. I occasionally tested and it always "seemed ok"

Recently my fasting reading has been just about the diagnosis criteria and different readings in the day some under and some over.

I have read loads on this site and am commited to trying low carb.

I have given myself 3 months and will return to the gp.

But.....when should I go back earlier and see if i need medication? If it is always above 6.5 fasting and above 11 in the day?

Any advice on anything greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Clare

I would go to the Drs now to get a true record of your status now. Then start taking action accordingly. That’s how I’d do it anyway. If you are diagnosed diabetic you’ll get all the screening etc.

I agree with @Rachox

There is no point delaying matters. If you have diabetes, then you have diabetes and you (and your doctor) need to know. You will be referred for the various diabetes screening stuff (eyes and feet) and will be monitored regularly with full blood and health checks and a nurse review. Changing your diet for 3 months won't cure it. All it will do is hopefully keep your blood glucose levels down to non-diabetic levels, but the diabetes will still be there, waiting to hit you in the face the second you eat too many carbs.

By the way, although 11 is the diagnostic level following an OGTT, that is an unreal situation after 75g of pure glucose. You do not want to be anywhere near as high as that after a normal meal. Under 7.8 is recommended.
