So I was diagnosed just over 2 years ago in tally as type 2 then very quickly changed to type one as my GAD results came back high.
Over the last 2 and a bit years I’ve managed my diabetes just on metformin. And my avg hba1c was 5.5% I also lost about 5stone during this time. During the last 4 months I’ve kinda let it all go I’ve put on over a stone in weight and wasn’t really watching what I was eating nor doing my bloods.
Anyway last couple of weeks I’ve felt a bit tired and a bit hot (my face) after eating so I decided to do my bloods this morning and it read as 14.0 Whoch is obviously high then I had a bowel of shreddies something I could normally tolerate wel 2 hours later my blood is 22. So I am wondering if I should just eat less do a bit more excerise (from nine at the moment) and see how it goes or if I should take some insulin to bring my blood down it has been sitting in my fridge for the past 2 years not used and still in date can’t call my nurse and it’s Sunday so any comments welcome..
Sorry formatting and typing front phone.

So over 2 1/2 years as type 1 with NO insulin, just Metformin??? I really struggle with this diagnosis. As a type 1 you would definately need insulin!
Have you managed to speak to anyone about this since your post? How are your Ketones??
Porl69 - Rarely, indeed, very rarely we hear of those whose condition settles, and their honeymoon goes on for a long, long time. I'm thinking in particular of our member @Ian DP https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/members/ian-dp.91575/
Ian is now taking insulin, but went for a long time using oral medication.
I personally think there are a material number of misdiagnosis of diabetes types on a day-to-day basis. A fair few LADAs diagnosed as T2, and some diagnosed as T1 who transpire, once they wrangle their condition into place, actually be T2.
Whilst our medics don't test for type around diagnosis there will continue to be a curlture on diagnosis by best guess.
Ah ok. I was on the understanding that even in the honeymoon period you would still need insulin but not as much. Thank you for that info
