Hi

Been T2 since Sept 2014 but new to testing. Take 2 x 500mg Metformin daily, stomach cannot deal with an increase. Healthy eating went completely out the window during lockdown, didn’t feel the best health wise so decided to get a grip.
I have managed to get my fasting BG from in the 9-11 range down to around 7.8 in about 3 weeks by reducing my carb intake.
I am testing before meal and 2 hrs after to see what carbs I can tolerate.
Reading today before lunch was 6.5, reading 2 hrs after was 8.8 ( I had a whole meal pitta with tuna and full fat mayo). Am I therefore correct in saying that the pitta is not a choice for me going forward as the rise was more than 2?
I am new to testing and new to this site so all help greatly received.
Also, I feel a little shaky in a morning, I have put this down to my levels going down from a period of 3 months eating like a non- diabetic and my body adjusting.
Thanks

Bread (in fact grains) of any kind usually cause a spike in most T2's
The tuna and full fat mayo with a fork would have been so far superior in terms of blood glucose reaction.
I'm afraid that the colour of stodge doesn't really matter it's usually best avoided completely if at all possible.

Hi and welcome. I wouldn't worry too much about your fasting BS due to the overnight liver dump effect. I wouldn't worry too much about increasing the Metformin until your stomach settles. If it doesn't then do ask for the Slow Release version Metformin SR

I always found bread a tricky one. I could usually handle it, but tbh I have now given it up - not touched a slice in 4 months! I put that down to taste - once I started eating low carb I found bread to be somewhat tasteless and the bread I could eat a displeasing texture. I usually do not touch grains these days unless it is crackers with cheese :)

Not saying my diet has been great during lockdown though - this is tough on all of us mentally and physically. I try to stay within limits and be forgiving. Good luck.
