Hi All,

Newbie posting but followed on and for a while.

Have been T2 for 15 years, been put on loads meds for years,, and always trusted diabetic nurse, till recently. All strips were stopped 12 year ago by NHS due to finance. Suffer from functional neurological disorder and erosive gastritis.

Essentially for most 13 years on metformin 2000 mg, alogliptin, and pioglitazone for last few years. Hb1ac went up to 89 last year, yesterday dropped to 69.

I got sever neuro symptoms and subsequently b12 defiency, had loading doses and maintenance till eas stopped presumably cash. But have been doing b12 2 times a week, funded by myself.

I know metformin now carries a risk of b12 defiency. As my annual review is now due am wanting to approach stopping metformin. Am 54 lost my job and unable to,work with no quality in my life, with myself now pushing for better life.

Moving forward i trying to change, but need advice especially as wanting to stop metformin.

Many thanks for all advice.

Scotty.

https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html is what got me off of metformin, but be careful when you change a lot, drastically... Not sure if you can hypo on alogliptin, but I seem to remember one can, so don't make any changes without a meter and loads of test strips available.

Things can get better than they are right now. Bit surprised the B12 was cut, as it is a known side effect of metformin... But I don't know what's going on with the NHS anyway, being Dutch. I just know it's an overtaxed system, that's about as far as it goes. But it is worth it to ask your insurance how it works, maybe, if it's due to metformin use? (Then again, once you're off, you won't need it for much longer anyway, one hopes!)

You'll get there. Not saying everything'll be rainbows and roundabouts, but it can get better than it is right now.
Hugs,
Jo
