Since my diagnosis in September I have been trying to follow a low cabohydrate diet and test blood glucose levels. I started with a fasting level of 11.9 and am now getting it lower, some days not going above 7 at any point. :D I have not done anything unusual today and I started off with 7.1 on waking (think I get dawn phenomenon, but have not been up at 3.00am to verify that LOL). Two hours after breakfast of 1 boiled egg and a piece of Bergen bread and lemon tea it is now 7.8. I had been on a walk as well. Is that OK? Sorry I am new to all this and get confused. On the good side I don't get the spikes anymore and have lost 4.5 kg in weight. I really need to get this right as I don't want to go on medication after my December appointment with the GP, who is not at all sympathetic with what I am trying to do. Can someone who is wiser tell me if I am on the right track and should I expect the odd "off" day even though I haven't done anything to cause BG to rise? :?:

Hi. I would be inclined to test 2 hours after a main meal rather than testing in the morning as the dawn phenomenen may continue to mis-lead you. If your doc has not already done an HBa1C test he should do at your next appointment and that should indicate whether you need to start any medication beyond your low-carb diet efforts. Metformin is not a problem drug so if your doc suggests this then I would go for it if needed but insist on the SR version to avoid possible stomach problems. You are on the right track with diet etc so let's hope your HBa1C result is good e.g. below 6.5'ish in old money.

Looks fine to me happycat, well done on your progress thus far
