Hi everyone, I'm new to the board and fairly new to diabetes.
My story is; been tested for many years all my readings were between 8-11 though this was considered "normal for me" at time of diagnosis I was 24, and about 24 st with poor diet. I was tested through the hospital with a reading of 16 after fasting, so it was then that I was given the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.
This was 2 years ago. I don't really understand diabetes, and as much googling as I do, I seem to get a lot of info about hypos and type 1 stuff.
My blood sugar has risen over the past 2 years - my reading this morning was 32.4. (Last week was: 27.1, 16.4, 32.1, 29.5, 30.3 19.7 and 18)
I am currently taking 4 metformin, 2 gliclazide and 2 Januvia tablets a day. I am on the slimmingworld diet - usual day is porridge with strawberrys, salad for lunch and usually some kind of meat and vegetable dinner. I do love pasta however have been cutting this out. Despite this my readings are still high and my doctor has arranged for me to go to the diabetic clinic tomorrow as she wants me on insulin.
I dont really understand this - I thought insulin was for type 1? please excuse my ignorance ..
From what I understand I am doing everything right - cutting out/down on carbs, excercising regularly, not having yummy stuff
so why is my blood still on the rise?
I suffer alot from highs - I am constantly numb (tingly all over) moods are a force to be reckoned with - I am SO angry and or weepy, ridiculously tired and constantly thirsty. (although randomly I do not wee alot)
Please tell me I'm not alone in this?
I would also say I am aware my weight is an issue - I have turned down 3 gastric bypasses, however am now seriously considering this as the numbness keeps me awake..
sorry for the jumblenes
