I was diagnosed just over 3 month ago. The blood test thingy was 58 I have just had another test done and the dr receptionist said it was 52 is this significant ? I don't know what the blood test is called but the nurse took blood out my arm and sent it to hospital. I'm not taking any meds as I asked to try diet first. I don't know if I'm doing ok or not ? Dies anyone know...... Very new to this

Tina, this sounds like they were HbA1c tests. This is an average of your blood sugar levels over the previous 2 to 3 months and is what doctors use to diagnose diabetes and also to check if you are keeping it under control. You need to ring your receptionist and ask her for print outs of the results. You may have to argue with her, but you are entitled to these and you will find them very useful.

You are doing something right to get your results down from 58 to 52. Well done!
 
Sounds like ur talking about your HbA1c levels. This is basically ur average over the 2-3 months prior to that blood test. I was 58mmol/mol on diagnosis and now down to 45mmol/mol. A non-diabetic range is 20-41mmol/mol

Thank you. I hope I am doing ok, I'm really upset I have it , I have no idea whether 52 is good or not. The nurse also told me not to test mt sugar so much as I only get 50 strips a month, she said every few days would be ok, but my sugar keeps going up now, I managed to keep it between 5 and 6 now its up to 7 or 8 ? Is this ok ?

Are you a type 1 or 2 diabetic? I presume the latter?
Regarding testing it should be just before and meal and ~2hrs after it, so a min of 6 per day. This way you can find out how different foods alter ur BG. Between 5-6 is good but is that a fasting sample or after food. 7-8 is classed as high but again, was that before or after a meal?
 
5and 6 before meal 7 /8 after. Usually 6 something first thing in morning

It is good your results are going down that's for sure, but u should test more often. I get all my stuff on the nhs, enough to give me a buffer to test anywhere up to 10 times a day. I test a min of 6 times a day, with the odd one here and there to check if my BG has dropped too low.
Ur diabetes can be "reversible" though. That is a sloppy term but for example someone who is quite a bit overweight that has diabetes could sort it by getting rid of fat. Have a read here...

This is the thing I am not over weight. I am 5ft 10" and weigh 12 stone. I guess I could loose 7 or 8 pound . Can I ask fir more test strips or do I have to buy them . It's daft because I get 100 needles but only 50 strips ?

That is just one way type 2 develops. A more accurate translation is Type 2 is "insulin resistance" - ur body is still producing the insulin but ur cells are not responding to it. I am type 1, which is "insulin deficient." My cells respond to insulin but my pancreas is producing too little or no insulin. Extra fat an reduce how responsive ur cells are to insulin but like I said that is but one way it can happen.

Everyone seems to be different depending on what local branch u fall under. Some on here have to pay for everything but I get all for free (or should I say from my taxes lol). I have noticed that type 2 diabetics tend to get less attention compare to type 1's. There would be no harm in asking for more and telling them why ur suggesting it etc. I am sure more Type 2s will be along to give more of an insight into living with that type.
