Regardng the Metformin, it is usually best to take with food - that can help to reduce stomach upsets for people who get them from metformin. But other than that, the timing of the drug makes no difference to its performance. Metformin is a drug that takes about 3 weeks of consistant use to build to maximum effectiveness. So changing the time of a dose won't make much difference, but it is important to remember not to miss doses.
I recently saw a fascinating video on You Tube by someone giving a lecture to medical professionals on the comparative benefits of the different diabetic drugs. He explained that Metformin lowers the average blood glucose of the average person by approx 1.1 mmol/l at a 1000mg dose.
After that, even doubling the dose only lowers the blood glucose by about another 0.25 mmol/l
Apparently, this increasing of dose having a decreasing effect is typical of most drugs.
