Hi my partner was diagnosed in April this year, and we have been keeping his level down by diet alone - which is great. In July his HBA was 6.9 which we were advised was good. However in this period of six month she has lost 2.5 stone and is still losing weight. Which I find worrying as he was hardly over weight in the first place. Would you know if this is normal.
Very grateful for any advice.

Hi.
Welcome to the Forum.
There can be many things which can cause an unexplained weight loss. It MAY be related to the Diabetes but nobody here can possibly know the cause. Rapid weight loss could also mean he was mis-diagnosed so needs checking out properly.

The link I am giving you has some possible causes.......do not automatically assume that it is something serious........it could just be something as simple as the diet regime is too stringent and not balanced to avoid the weight loss. However, some of the things can be more serious.

My advice to you is to please see your GP asap and get this checked out for peace of mind whatever the reason.

I had a similar problem but seem to have stabilised a bit since the earlier rapid weight loss.

Try adding a hand full of almonds with every other meal for a while and see if that helps. It may help to soak them overnight and peel them. Or use almond meal.

I started doing this as I had read it had helped some diabetic rats keep weight on in some study.

Whether it generalises to humans is anyones guess. You should check with your doc first though, even though they seem to know ****** all about the condition usually.

I had the same problem I have lost 4 stone in a year and the weight just fell off.
I went and saw my doctor about this as I was very worried only to be told my weight would find its own level and it was nothing to worry about , although she did do my blood tests early and reduced my metformin to one per day.
Although I was shedding weight at an extreme rate I did feel really well but it did scare me,also well meaning people felt the need to point out I was far too thin and one person asked if I had a terminal illness.
Have just had my first year results and all excellent last three hba1c 5%.
This time last year I was scared out of my wits but feel I can cope with it now.
Dont sit worrying about the weight loss see your doctor even if it is only to be reasured that all is well. There are so many things to learn about diabetes and this site is a font of knowlege.

Hi Cugila,Pickeld Pepper and Amiee

Thank you so much for your replies and thoughts, you have confirmed what I having been thinking about returning to the Dr's am hoping now that my parnter having read your comments will now not think it is just me nagging !! and may be worth a visit.

We have been quite stringent in cutting out sugar and he has reduced his calorie intake but I think like you it would be good to get checked out.

It has been good to know we are not alone, am really pleased that we have found this forum.

Thank you
