I have been having spells of light headedness for a while and have visited my doctor on a few occasions, i have had an ECG which was normal, an appointment with an ear specialist which was also normal.

I had bloods taken and a fasting glucose test which was fine too.

Anyway, i have been trying to work out when i get the spells and its usually if i havent eaten for 2-3 hours, generally in the morning im ok if i get up straight away but if i lie in bed for a bit i start to feel light headded (but not every day), can often happen after large meals i.e takeaway.

I purchased a blood glucose monitor today and have had the following readings..

Woke up : 8am - Breakfast (porridge)
10.30 - Toast and bovril ... yum
11.50 5.6 mmol/l
13.18 5.1 mmol/l
13.30 banana + 0% greek yoghurt
14.59 4.8 mmol/l
15.14 (slight light headedness)

I will continue to monitor today, any advice on these numbers would be appreciated.

Thanks

The numbers you have quoted are perfectly normal for a non-diabetic person.

Yeah that's what I thought I'm wondering whether I'm suffering from postprandial hypotension rather than hypoglycaemia although I will carry on testing myself and post results, something to mention to the doc I guess

I'm going to do a pre bed and waking test too

I'm 34 male and in fairly good health appart from this obviously lol 6ft and 14 stone ( put on stone and a half while this has been going on due to more eating)

One reason I need it sorting

I'd be overjoyed to have such readings!

I am 36, Male, 6'1" and 14 st. Would love your readings even for one day.

Just a thought about the light-headedness. Have your Gas Appliances been checked recently? All Gas boilers, fires and cookers should be safety checked every year.

Ah! Excellent point! The old carbon-monoxide - the silent assassin of the appliance world. I hadn't thought of that, excellent suggestion.

Could very well be hypotension. You can go into some pharmacies or GP surgery and test yourself if you want. All sorts of things can cause it if your blood pressure is not usually constantly low or you've always thought it to be normal.

Mine was always on the lower side until I went on the pill, ended up on the brink of high BP and for months afterwards I would have sudden drops and nearly pass out when standing up. Started any new medication lately? If you are worried about hassling the GP then I recommend using a self test machine sitting and standing or before and after a meal.

In any case I think it's better to be a little low than a little high even it can make you feel a little weird at times. Good luck xx
