Metformin should not cause hypos, do contact your DSN if you are getting very low blood sugar readings

I wish. I wouldnt need insulin if it made that much of a difference!
Are you?
I've learnt every one is different.

You can hypo on Metformin but it is very rare.

Do you think you are getting low? Do you test at these times, and if so, what are your levels?

I was getting hypos on metformin my bloods were getting 3 and below and DN swapped me to slow release metformin and the results is still the same where my blood gets 3 and below and had have all the symptoms if a hypo!!

How many do you take per day (dosage?)

Hi @Jo1984 I'm on Metformin Slow Release - 2 x 1000 (all taken together at night) as well as insulin (Novomix - 22units with breakfast and 16 with dinner) .I've been under 4 only twice - 3.8 once - with no feelings of hypo at all - and 3.2 once - when I did feel some efects.

Neither of these readings were fasting in the morning, so I'm presuming they weren't from Metformin, but probably a very low carb breakfast or lunch

Metformin can help you be more sensitive to insulin, that's what it is supposed to do, but in of itself will not cause hypos. You can certainly have a hypo while on it but it is unlikely that metformin is the cause
