I'm currently being tested for diabetes and I had 3 fasting blood tests over 3 days early and the 1st was 6.8 mmol and the last 2 was 7.1 mmol and I have read that a fasting blood test of 7.0 mmol or over is diabetes but I'm a little confused if anyone can help me with this I would be very grateful thanks

For fasting blood tests below 5.5 is normal, 5.5 to 6.9 is pre-diabetic and above 7.0 is diabetic. Diagnosis is normally confirmed using an HbA1c test which gives an indication of your average blood glucose over the past 12 weeks.

Edited to add that there is a lot of information about this on the Home page of this site.

Are you in the UK?

If so, you will not be diagnosed purely on fasting blood glucose tests. You will have an HbA1c test. A fasting glucose test taken from your arm by a nurse/doctor of 7 or over is indicative of T2 diabetes, but not a diagnosis

The HbA1c will give you proper answers, but in the meantime, read around here, just in case. And maybe The Diabetes Code by Dr. Jason Fung? It helps to know what you're up against if it is T2, and what questions to ask your doctor. Plus, have enough knowledge to understand the answers.

Whatever the results, you'll be fine. And we'll help, if you want.
