which which shot up to 48 mmol/mol and occurred while i was very ill and on antibiotics and steroids for about 12 weeks, my latest a1c result was 36 mmol/mol about 5.6% I think. My BGL was 4.8 on the day. Where does that leave me now?

Every other morning i check my blood when i get up and it's always between 4.9 and 5.7 fasting.

This morning i arose at 7am for bathroom and went back to bed. I then got up at 9.15am and checked my blood and it was 6.1??
It was 3.15am when i got to bed and i slept through.
Would anybody know what this means?

Thank you

That is commonly called a liver dump or the Dawn Phenomenon and is a natural occurrence.

There is a type of diabetes called steroid induced diabetes, which is when we see elevated blood sugar levels that are entirely due to long term steroid use. Often (but not always) when the steroids are stopped and out of the system, the elevated blood sugar levels return to normal. From the levels you are quoting, it seems you have returned to normal.

Thank you for the very quick reply. Yes i have heard of the morning problem with BSLs. I got a fright when i got the elevated result. Thank you for that. Perhaps had i checked it when first up at 7am the result might have been better.
