Hello friends..... Can someone please tell if agar agar (also called as china grass) recipes without sugar, are ok for type-1 diet. I read that 100 gms of agar agar has only 7g carbs..........please advice. Thanks.

I believe it's basically all fibre, so probably somewhat like konjac/shirataki. I'm not type 1, but for diet controlled low-carbing, Agar Agar should be ok, although I'd still side with Shirataki as it lends itself to more versatile savoury/ main meal options. I don't see why you couldn't use agar, but it is generally used in making candies as far as I know.

Agar agar is a great thickener as unlike gelatin once it's set it's heat stable unlike gelatin that turns back to liquid once warmed. I have used it for sweet chilli sauce and chicken stew - you are right it's also low carb

Hey @lovinglife I just noticed your weight loss - you have done an amazing job!! I am impressed and encouraged to "keep on keeping on!" Thank you for your example!! Blessings/L (Sorry - don't mean to derail the thread!!)
