I have recently bought a cookbook that recommends Agave Nectar. Is this suitable for diabetics? And does anyone have any experience of the product? Brucenjude
Depends on how / if it's processed. Raw agave has less fructose than processed but doesn't taste as nice.
I found some agave spiked my sugars same as fructose / honey whilst others didn't - generally speaking the more expensive it was the less it spiked
I gave up on agave because of this - I'd say test a small amount and see what it does to your sugars rather than assuming all agave syrups are equally good for diabetics
As a diabetic you should avoid all forms of sugar where you can. Fructose is best avoided for all of us other than in the small'ish quantities found in fruit
