Age restriction on insulin pump?

I don't believe my ears, just spoken to my uncle who went to see about getting an insulin pump yesterday after seeing how well I'm doing with mine and he's been refused,

BECAUSE HES TOO OLD!?

Is this right? Has anyone else heard this?
He is mid 60's, has always had probs with his control, since getting mine I have gone on n on at him to see about getting one as I think he would do brilliantly with it, and this is the response he's got? I'm gob smacked!!

I am 65 and just got approval for a pump and there is a lady of 73 who has had a pump for 9 months,so in my area age does not appear to make any difference.

It's called discrimination and it's not allowed. I know someone in their late 70's with a pump. Ask your uncle to get it in writing why he was refused a pump. If there were other reasons besides age discrimination then he needs to work on those, if not then complain to the highest level.
 
Disgraceful. Agree with CarbsRok. Hope he gets a successful outcome.

I thought this must be wrong because why should it make any difference when a child can have one why can't someone in their 60's have one!

I asked if it was just our doctors surgery that said this as I know what they are like I got myself referred to the diabetic clinic at my hospital to see about getting a pump instead of messing around with them but he said it was them and the nurses,

I thought about ringing my nurse on Monday as she is lovely and he should be under the same team as me, problem is he won't fight for it, cos he doesn't like to really speak up but I might speak to my nurse and see what she says?
