Do you use one to make chips/fries?

Am thinking want to try celeriac and perhaps swede as chips/fries

My daughter came home with one from an auction!!

I've never used one, they were very expensive when they first came out and i was wwaiting till the prices went down. Let us know how you get on with it :)

I have a Tefal Actifry and absolutely love it. It makes the perfect chip, from frozen chips to your own and they come out crispy on the outside, fluffy in the middle. If using frozen chips no oil is needed but if it's your own then only a spoonful of oil is needed. They don't come out greasy either. It can be used for cooking other food but I only use it now and again for chips for the kids and it was brought to replace a deep fat fryer.

I've never had one. I just use an ordinary deep fat fryer with cold pressed rapeseed oil, which produces beautiful and perfect home made chips, and because of the deep fat frying a few don't spike my levels at all (unlike oven chips)

I still use a chip pan, take me a while to catch up with new ideas! ;) I haven't used it for a few months but might dig it out to see if deep fried celeriac chips are nice ;)

ok, been experimenting!

Swede chips are tolerable...lol

Celeriac chips are lush!

Am trying to avoid eating too many potatoes so the above make a welcome change!!

I have also used the airfryer for sausages, chicken and fish fingers...great crispy results...

Totally agree with you on that one, celeriac chips are amazing. Try them with a sprinkle of paprika and a little full fat garlic mayo - first time I tried that I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

Lol. .
How did you prepare your celeriac chips?

I've still got a large box of fish fingers in the freezer from pre-lchf, but at 23carbs for 4 I've been scared to try them - seems anything around the 20carbs mark spikes me :(

I haven't got an airfryer, are fried celeriac chips good too or do they have to be oven cooked?

Rowan, the celeriac chips are really nice....I seasoned them prior to putting in the fryer. They are also nice done in an oven!

The fish fingers were for the smaller members of the household lol

I just cut the celariac in to french-fry sized pieces and coat them in olive oil with a little salt and paprika then throw them in the oven on a baking tray till they look about done. They don't go as crispy as I'd like them but they're still lovely! I'd probably do them a little differently if I had a fryer :)

:D I love fish fingers too (but they have to be Bird's Eye Cod) I'm just a big kid at heart ;)

well, I actually par boiled them ( prob too long, like 5 mins ) but next time I may leave that out and just cook longer in the fryer!

This thread has inspired me to order a deep fat fryer. Found a small one on tesco and I had enough vouchers for it to be FREE!!!!! (well not really I guess). PIck it up sat morning! Thinking celeriac chips sat night!!!! And maybe lunch time too.......

Might try butternut squash too.

I love the air fryer because it uses hardly any fat to give the same cooking appearance as if been deep fried.... A "freebie" is always a good thing Lenny3

sorry for being a bit thick but what are celeriac chips

Hello Nicola

I'd be interested to know how you get on with the Actifry for a range of other foods as well. I'm looking at making a similar purchase for when I start LCHF after ND

I was fortunate to be given an Actifry by some very good friends for my 60th Birthday - couldn't live without it now!

Great for chips/wedges, roasting parsnips, sweet potato, etc!

I try to eat very few "normal" potatoes but my favourite for the Actifry has to be Baby New Potatoes roasted with just a teaspoon of rapeseed or olive oil and a good sprinkling of seasoning. I use a pepper grinder containing my own "special" mix - chilli flakes, peppercorns, mustard seeds, sea salt - but any seasoning that takes your fancy is good! ;)
