Hi, my Husband has very recently been diagnosed with steroid induced diabetes. He is travelling on an aeroplane soon and only taking hand luggage. He needs to test his blood sugars twice a day - is he able to carry his glucose meter, needles and test strips in his hand luggage on the plane? Thank you for your help. I am sure there will be many more questions to come!!

Absolutely, yes.
It is always recommended the carry your medication in hand luggage in case your hold luggage goes missing.
It's a good idea to get a letter from his doctor to explain he has diabetes and needs these items for medical reasons.
To be honest, I have had diabetes for over ten years and fly about eight times per year and only needed this letter once but I would rather have it than come across and over-efficient security guard who won't let me on the plan unless I dump the stuff that keeps me alive.

Concur with @helensaramay , yep! Lol, I've been searched for many things flagging up on the scanner countless times . But the diabetic stuff has never been of interest to security... I've never needed to use the "letter."

Double check with the airline .... always a good idea. Security do NOT control the carriers' rules though the vast (VAST) majority comply with meds concerns. They are a screening point for the terminal(s) regardless of the gates and aircraft occupying those gates. Better still, take with you any evidence that the airline / carrier approves the uplift of the hand luggage by way of a copy of their terms and conditions which excuse you. I repeat, it's highly unlikely but cover yourself
