Airport security and insulin

I fly a lot and I always keep my insulin supplies in my handbaggage, never take it out. On the last 6-8 flights I've done my bag has been pulled aside and searched. Fine by me. Do you take your pens and extra insulin out of your bag and put it separately in the tray? Common sense I suppose the answer must be "yes"

i never used to ... but recently i take my pens and spare cartridges and vials and put them all in the plastic bag for liquids

just saves the hassle of them pulling your hand luggage aside for a search
