Alcohol And Carb Counting?

Been diabetic 35 years , 30 on insulin and new to carb counting, every time I have one can of lager in an evening bg rises excessively and stays there all night. Does anyone suggest a remedy please.

Change to red wine.

Or white. :) I was told by my dietician that I could ignore the carb in dry white and red wine because the alcohol's carb lowering effects would cancel out the carb.

I've given up on beer, lager, cider because it's too carbohydrate heavy.

I'm not sure about spirits, as I very rarely drink them, but am guessing that vodka and gin would be OK.....?

I was told dry not sweet wine. See what your meter tells you.

As for spirits, quite a few seem to enjoy the odd tot with diet mixers.
