Iam Diabetic type 2 and wanted to know about alcohol? i go out once a week for a drink with friends and usually have a few Magners cider or a Pints of Lager and Morgans rum and diet coke but what is the best alcohol to have ?

From my personal experience I've found it best to avoid alcopops and such as they have so much sugar in you wouldn't believe.
The only good tip I could give is try not to mix your drinks stick to one type, I use to go out drinking before I was diagnosed and found it really hard afterwards but you just need to make sure you eat a good meal beforehand and try having something in between your drinks like water or diet pop.
Deffinetelty avoid vodka & redbull (that way my absolute fave) but after a fair few I ended up collapsing and being left on the floor as people thought I was just drunk. I'm sure you already know but one is a stimulant and one a relaxant and my blood sugar dropped so low.
I hope this helps even it it's just a teeny weeny bit! :)

For me after all these years of drinking and diabetes, I have settled on Vodka and soda - zero carbs and the desired effect if needed.

48 years of drinking, 11 years of diabetes

Papworth kid 18 years liver 100 % ( not sure if they mean 100% good or bad ! I don't ask ! )

I could not exist in my present form without alcohol, that sounds a bit sad right ? It helps me to be who I AM, but it's a question of quantity.

but trust me to know how MY body works. I get up early every day and put a full days attention to everything I do.

To answer the OP I would stay clear of cider and lager, as nice as they are ! a lot of carbs there.....

Skin up, cheers me hearties ! Superchip

Hi Janq , it would seem that alcohol work in different ways with different folk...I like a whisky with either diet lemonade or diet ginget or with tonic...and my sugar levels can drop like a stone ...my best advice ...leave it alone if possible.....it is not worth the possible problems , hospital comes to mind.........

I drank cider and lots of it for over twenty years until i became diabetic,my consultant told me its the sugariest drink of them all and to forget about drinking it again,he suggested red wine, spirit with a diet mixer,or if i had to have a beer try lager but if out for a night try and stay on the same brand dont chop and change i have settled on coors light it works for me.
