I still enjoy my drinks weekends and midweek. Often go out with the boys Fridays and drink far more pints than is reasonable. I see you're on diet only, so drinking won't hurt your diabetes in that if anything it lowers sugar levels - that's why people on insulin and similar have to be aware of hypos (very low blood sugar) if they drink. Of course, it won't do much to help with weight loss, so in that way it could stop you improving your diabetes. Some will say beer has carbohydrates ( lots) compared to other alcohol, and it's true, but testing shows me that the sugar lowering affect of alcohol has more effect than the carbs. (on me at least) That's not an excuse to go mad, but enjoy your drink in moderation. (huh hm) If you get put on meds, you may need to be a bit more careful
An endocrinologist specialising in diabetes told me "there's a lot of alcohol fascism in my profession and it's nonsense on the whole. No reason at all why you shouldn't enjoy a drink, even if you go on to metformin" the metformin is another point but this post is already long enough!
Good luck and cheers!
