Errm, I'm not sure if this ties in to peoplw seeing better readings after eating sugar (sounds like the totally wrong thing to do but seems to work 0_o)
FIrst off let me clarify I am NOT a habitual drinker. I would say I drink like 5 times a year. I do not go to parties or bars unless being dragged along by my mother. I HATE drunkenness and heavy drinkers. Lost too many people in my family due to alcoholism and my Ma's boyfriend is a mean drunk...As well as my grandfather...
Ok anyway, my ma had a work colleague over last night to discuss an upcoming project and she had me pour some tiny shots of 75% proof rum diluted with sugar-free squash and sparkling water.
I'd been freaking out earlier that evening because my post meal reading was 15.7 (a record for me @_@) after th booze it came down to 6.7 then this morning my fasting was 5.6.
Right now (before lunch) I am 4.2!
I'm not saying long term heavy drinking is a good idea but a little shot every so often or when having a high like that ^ might be ok?
Again, I am not into booze. Just thought it interesting because on he last occasion I drank (Mother's birthday) and had a meter I was testing in the 5's and 6s most of the day a day or two after. LIke the effect wasn't just a sudden drop in blood sugar on the day only.
So ar the only thing to make me actually hypo has been a carb-loaded meal and I woke up feeling like I was dying. But could alcohol be doing the same thing? (A spike so quick I wouldn't catch it, then a drop) but the drop keeps things low longer and hasn't been as dramatic as with the carbs??
Confusing stuff...
