All change after 40+ years of consistency

Anyone have any similar experience?

I have been Type 2 for more than 45 years with pretty good control.

However, for the last year, I have zero control and my blood sugars simply yo yo each day, with no logical explanation.

Part of the issue seems to be a delay in digesting or absorbing food. Until now, I could rectify low bloods in a matter of minutes. Now I can eat for hours, with no change but then, much later, it all lands and I am way high.

Some other peculiarities; small amounts of good generate extremely high blood sugars, which makes no sense.

Consultant has no idea!

Hi @hallettgw , welcome to posting on the forum.

Have you had tests for gastroparesis?
Even with good control, 45 years is a long time, which could lead to complications.

Are you using a CGM?
In my experience, my CGM will take much longer to recognise I've recovered from a hypo than a fingerprick so I don't rely on CGM values after a hypo and always do a fingerprick test 10-15 minutes after a hypo.

What insulin regime are you using? MDI (injections), pump, or (assuming not) HCL?

As @Antje77 says - do you use CGM?

Have you used the same sites over and over (thinking maybe insulin resistance due to the fat breaking down at injection sites), do you always inject your long-acting insulin in the same place?

Are you eating high protein or high fat meals (digestion of some carbs can be over hours)?

What insulins are you using (and has anything changed recently, like they've put you on a bio-similar or has anything else been altered since the changes started)?
