Could you say more on this 'Hunter gene'? Was it actually identified by the Human Genome Project or by a non geneticist?
My knowledge of Diabetes (of any type) is in its infancy but increasingly I read that the condition is not fully understood as per cause of the differing types or, indeed, treatment options. TIA.

HiWell now you gone an done it.
HiThis has been covered by quite a number of threads from the op.
He was told by a so called specialist that his RH is genetic.
I don't believe so!
On a lighter note, I have heard that women eating weetabix when pregnant will cause gestational diabetes!
But I don't have the time or energy to protest!
HII'm a hunter genotype and there is no better diet for me than vlchf for years pre D. My kids included. They eat very healthy.
They also ate buffalo and deer they hunted in their diet.Further the American Indians who have the symptoms of "hunter" ate an orignal corn which was hard to digest.
Mmmmm... love me some bison and venison!!!They also ate buffalo and deer they hunted in their diet.
With Lakota fry / fried bread to sop the gravy up with.Mmmmm... love me some bison and venison!!!
In the sense I have used the "hunter" gene there is only one. It is a different way of processing sugar. 1 of the attributes of this method is that you do not lose weight on a low carb diet. So you do not starve if you eat a standard hunter gather diet. The way it works is if you eat a low carb diet you have an insulin releases to process protein. You need insulin to prevent a build up of ammonia in the blood (you can die from that). After insulin processing you pea most of the result. However once the insulin is in the blood it also changes sugar into fat. I speculate that all humans have the ability to produce the hormones used in the placenta to make babies insulin resistant and to prevent very low blood sugar you release these hormones when necessary. "Normal" people probably produce these hormones but in any case their blood sugar becomes lower than the body is comfortable with. So the liver changes fat into sugar. Changing sugar into fat and then changing fat into sugar is very energy intensive. I have read that up to 1/3 the energy is lost in this process. So you lose weight. People with my gene are usually insulin resistant. We are producing the necessary hormones most of the time. We do not change sugar into fatIs there really just a single "hunter" gene? I'd guess there's more than one. I'd also guess that almost all humans have it. Is there any population that would not do well on an all meat diet? I don't think so.

My diet is all meat.Hi
My diet is mostly meat with some low carb vegetables and some nuts and some 100% coco for a treat (almost nothing else). I have eaten this diet for over 12 years. My health if anything has improved. So if you have the "hunter" gene the hunter gather diet seems to be fine. I can explain why you do not lose weight if you care.
