I've been using levemir as basal since I was diagnosed and this had had been fine and no reactions
Recently ive been getting big red soar, itchy marks around the area of injection. Usually I am ignoring and thinking nothing of it.
However I've noticed my usual control has gone out of wack and light hypos daily are being common
I looked on the levemir website and it said

Reactions at the injection site (local allergic reaction). You may get redness, swelling, and itching at the injection site. If you keep having skin reactions or they are serious, talk to your doctor. You may need to stop using Levemir® FlexPen® and use a different insulin. Do not inject insulin into skin that is red, swollen, or itchy.

Should I do an urgent call to my doc or diabetic nurse/specialist tomorrow or wait until my appointment in November?

Hi dizzyrj

I wouldn't wait too long. Give them a call tomorrow and see what they suggest.

Hopefully someone will answer the phone. Its usually leave a message and wait for about 3 days.

I will use my working in a hospital powers to try and page someone if they don't answer the phone

Hi Dizzy,
give your team a ring most def.
Another thought for you, is have you changed the type of needle used for your pen? The reason I ask is that some people have found they have an allergy to some of the needles.
Hope you sort things soon.

I have not changed the needles. I use BD microfine 5mm needles, I did try the 8mm ones but I still came up in the rash.

I managed to get hold of a diabetic nurse, he had a look at the rashes and said its an allergic reaction to the preservative in the levemir. He has now now put me onto Lantus and see how I go with it.

The clikstar pens are big beefy things compared to the novopen 4

Not used the Clickstar pens so unsure of the size, you can get the Lantus in the Solostar pens (disposable) which are quite small and come in boxes of 5.
