Hi all, I have diabetes number 2 for 13 years, been on insulin nova mix 30 for 12 years, recently I get some symptoms after injecting insulin such as :dizziness , losing balance, numbness of face and head, vomiting sensation , fast heart beat... this goes for a few hours, I have noticed when expiry date is less than 1 year I get these symptoms , as shorter as the valid is, symptoms are more severe.
I have discussed this matter with my GP and diabetes team, which both saying there isn't such an Allergy for Insulin , they even changed the insulin , but still it is same result, on lower expiry date I have same symptoms, specially for longer(maximum effect) insulin
My question is , has anyone had any symptoms same as mine with Novamix30 or any other insulin injection?
Is there any way to get insulin with longer than 1 year expiry date ?(Mostly my usual pharmacy has lower than 1 year mostly 6-7 months valid)

Hi. Can I ask whether you are on any other medication? Also what your BMI is and whether you have low carb diet?
Hello Biabell
My BMI is about 34, yes I am taking several medicines such as Metformin, forxiga(dapagliflozin), Insulin, omeprazole, atorvastatin, zapain, prednisolone,... and I am not on a low carb diet.

I am not sure that there is such a thing as an allergy to insulin. As a T2DM you still produce it, your cells are simply resistant. So if you were allergic you would be in big trouble already and also be in the journals as a very rare new syndrome (unless you were taking animal insulin which went out of use decades ago so that is rather unlikely). Sounds either like hypo symptoms or more probably, alas, side effects of a BMI of 34. A BMI up there will cause all manner of nasty side effects and yours are not inconsistent with that. You HAVE to get it down. Go on a low carb diet and start walking around the block once or twice a day. Tiny changes like that will make everything better. Good luck!

Hi. That's a good selection of meds! I would suggest moving to a lower carb diet to help control weight and blood sugar. Doing that should reduce your insulin needs as any insulin resistance fades. Hopefully that would also reduce your reaction to the insulin. The thing about being T2 and having some excess weight is that you body may well be producing too much insulin already which the body is unable to use efficiently and injecting insulin just adds to that and may be causing some of the reaction?
