Don't have diabetes
Hi All! Firstly I want to thank everybody for their posts on here, I rarely comment but read a lot of the posts.
I have had a call from the doctor today with the results of my latest HBA1C which has come back at 67, previously 51
I asked for the blood test as I knew something wasn’t right, I was spending a penny far too often on average 8 times a night
It was a locum doctor and the only thing he said was “ your diabetes has got worse and gone upto 67, I’ll add alogliptin to your meds and re test in 3 months”
Has anybody had any bad effects off this med please?
Thank you for reading

Hi,
I have been taking sitagliptin since 2014.
I have no side effects.
The Gliptin is used to lower blood glucose levels, so that your hba1c levels do reflect the use of the meds. What it does is give you a help with your first insulin response from glucose derived from food. You probably have insulin resistance and it causes your Hba1c levels up. I suffered the same way, my insulin response was very weak and my glucose shot up rapidly.
Dietary control is important with this and reducing your carbs would help so much.
Hope this helps.

Keep safe

Hi @Liam8668
Gliptins are very effective at reducing bgs and a little weight loss. It is a good tool for you to understand your diabetes better too.
I eventually had no help from sitagliptin but I was in the middle of a burn out. Endocologist stopped mine and put me on insulin my sugars were way out of control.
Management from you will give you a good response with meds like Alogliptin.
Food is a huge factor. How much sweet food cravings are you getting? How much Carbs like potato, rice, bread and flour based products do you eat? Lowing your Carbs will definitely work in some measurement. Just keep in mind what has improved your hba1c (next one) whether lower Carbs, gliptin or both. Then take it from there?
I'm sure you have this.
Explore, test and be happy. :) :) :)
