hi everyone can you all give me some advice please, I want to start low carb but I can't handle diary, only lactofree or alpro products, but I know the alpro have small amounts of sugar in them. Can I still do low carb using these? I've tried goats but my tummy can not handle those and I feel ill ...... Help as I really need to to change my lifestyle x

Unsweetened soya and almond milk are very low carb.
I do like a dash of normal milk in my tea and use fresh lactose free milk as it is lower in carbs and in the quantity in tea is fine but I wouldn't drink a mug of it too many carbs.
So plenty of options.

I find Total Greek yoghurt is the lowest carb option.
You could put some berries in it or I have a bit of xyilitol sweetener in it.

Gosh sorry I was a bit slow there!
That's a bit harder, tesco used to do an unsweetened soya yoghurt which was very low carb but unfortunately they've stopped doing it. Then I moved onto alpro unsweetened yoghurt but they have changed the labeling from unsweetened to plain and on the ingredients there is some form of sugar in it, but the carbs remained the same. However when I tried the plain yoghurt it tasted sweet compared to the unsweetened so I didn't like it and I'm not sure I trusted their nutritional information! But it might be worth trying as the carbs listed were still quite low, you could test your bg after eating.

I have lactose intolerance, I use unsweetened almond milk instead for every day stuff.
I bought a cheap yoghurt maker from Lidl and make my own Greek yoghurt. Interestingly I was reading that a lot of dairy intolerant people are only intolerant to one substance in the milk, and this normally isn't present in large quantities in Jersey and Guernsey milk... So I made it from that and seem fine with it.

@Kezziej Koko Coconut Milk is tasty and dairy free :) It's got 1.9g carbs per 100ml but there are various versions you can get so that varies.

The Alpro yoghurts are pretty good I have them quite often.. the coconut one has the least carbs I think..2.3g per 100g..
A warning though don't try to make frozen yoghurt with them.. it went rock hard and took ages to thaw not one of my better attempts at ice cream.

Koko is also the one for me. Low carbs, no dairy and tastes great:)

As someone else has said, it's often one component of milk that causes issues. I know @Brunneria has issues with dairy, but can tolerate cheese and cream perfectly well.

Do you eat cheese?

I've tried the Lacto-free cream and really didn't enjoy it at all. I'm fine on dairy, but the Lacto-free was the only option one time I wanted it. I live near a proper no-horse town. :)

I am ok with some cheese funny enough, I don't mind the lactofree all I find is that the cream isn't great being whipped up but I can live with that lol

Hi @Kezziej

I have had all sorts of reactions over the years to dairy. I am 52 y/o and ate it with no probs until 20 ish then it was certain things. I was terrible with milk but could tolerate yoghurt, cheese made me so asthmatic I could hardly breathe, but I could eat cream cheese, butter and cottage cheese with no probs. After only having small portions of any dairy and going onto almond/coconut milk for years, I can now tolerate cheese again. You are in the right place to find your level. We have all struggled with that. You will find all the help and support you need here. Best of luck and keep at it.

How strange I was the same, I could eat all types of diary until I hit about 25 then started having problems with wheat diary and gluten. I do find I can eat little bits of normal cheese but milk doesn't settle right at all, I'm hoping once my system has levelled out I can tolerate more :)

I picked up your comment about glucose. I am coeliac and cannot tolerate wheat, barley or rye, if I get so much as a crumb I am very ill with cramps in the stomach and diarrhea.
I'm in no way qualified to advise you, but I would try cutting out gluten completely (plenty of advice on google and join http://members2.boardhost.com/glutenfree) whilst continuing your ban on milk. Then gradually adding milk substitutes, and eventually trying cheeses and a small amount of channel island milk.
