Alternative site BG testing.

Severalmeters can be used to test alternative sites.

My Freestyle Mini booklet, shows 5(X 2 for both sides) alternative testing sites. these are places where capillaries pass under thinner skin and pain sensors are far apart. I now only use the inside of the forearm. I'm T2 and Test once daily.
The booklet also recommends that you should use somewhere on the hands when tracking hypoglycaemia,because of greater speed of flow. The only change I have to make to the stabber is to use a different "Nozzle", which comes with it..
Also, for anyone whose fingers are getting sore, Don't use the ball of the finger. It's too sensitive, always use the side, between the ball and the nail. Also use minimum depth. The FS mini only needs a sample the size of a pinhead. Much less than most meters.
Hope this helps someone and doesn't bring out accusations of teaching Grandma to suck eggs.

I think like everything its personal - having tested about a zillion times, I find the sides more sensitive than the balls!

Also I believe testing from the arm can give delayed results so a hypo might not be picked up so quickly - whereas the fingers give a 'current' position reading.

A couple of good AST sides are the base of the thumb, and the side of the hand below the little finger...

I personally use the Tips of my two middle fingers on my left hand. They are very specled now lol.

i dont like using the sides, i find it difficult to squeeze the blood out and i never use the pads.

I know about those specles! My skin is brittle and I have themjust above my watchband. To get the blood ou, I push down on the stabber. the "nozzle ring" puts pressure in the right places, all round the "hole".
I know it's what suits everyone individually that counts, but I was trying to help newbies. there have been some questions on the subject and VERY few people read the meter handbook
