Alternatives to standard medication

I am a 74 year old male and I have had Type II diabetes without remission 2017, and I have a bad reaction to all the standard diabetic medication such as Metformin and Jardiance, and my low carbohydrate diet is not bringing my weight down. Can you please suggest anything?

Hello @MMcNiel - do you have a blood glucose tester? I found it really useful to be able to check my blood glucose levels after eating - once I was seeing lower levels after meals I lost weight - but I suspect it was a response to the low carb levels rather than the cause of them.

Medication wise you may be best to ask your Diabetic nurse or Dr, I had very bad reactions to Metformin so opted for insulin (with my levels it was probably not an option anyway)

I am not one for alternative stuff, but having said that, I am trying psyllium husk. I think it does keep my bowels calmer which is good, and it also seems to help me feel fuller. It could of course just be in my head, but I keep taking it. However, just because it works for me, doesn't mean it will be right for you.

I could not tolerate Metformin.
