Hi,

It's not what you might think!!!

I am refering to my BG levels.

My BG consistently rises overnight by some 4 points.

Example: Last food eaten at 1900, BG at 2200 is 5.5, BG on waking is 9.7.

Any ideas?

Chris

I read the link you provided and although very technical & not fully understood it seems it is a natuarl phenonemum to have high waking BG levels.

However, the author ends by saying:

"The 2009 guideline Bg figures to aim for are as follows:
Fasting (waking).................Between 4 - 7 mmol/l.
2 hrs after meals.................No more than 8.5 mmol/l."

Mine are definately much higher this morning being 11.2.

Now this gives me a distinct disadvantage as following breakfast my levels are up to 15.

It may take me all day to get back to around 7.

Chris.

No, you have misunderstood. It is not natural to have high morning Bg levels !

I will try to explain. It just means if your levels drop low in the night the DP effect kicks in and elevates your levels automatically. The trick is to make sure that your pre bed level is not too low as this will definitely trigger the DP. I don't often experience it because my pre bed level is usually around 7 - 8 mmol/l. This is enough for me to get up, test, then have breakfast with little or no DP effect.

If however, I get up fail to test, fail to eat for a while or exercised then if it hadn't already kicked in it will then, so my levels would go up. Without having eaten a thing ! The high level AM would then as you have found carry over throughout the day, unless you try to counteract it by some exercise, drinking plenty of fluids, water etc. If you are also eating loads of carbs then it just gets worse and worse.

What exactly do you have for your breakfast ?

Is that what you had this morning ? There is nothing there apart from the toast which may have contributed to the rise. You went up by roughly 4 mmol/l so if you can try and get the morning levels lower, then perhaps do without the toast and see what sort of result that gives. You will then clearly see if the toast is good or not ?

This morning I had bacon, mushrooms & toast.
Before bed last night my BG was 7.3. On waking it was 11.9.

I ate breakfast at 0830 & at 1000 it was 14.3 and at 1130 it was 7.6.

It is a roller coaster all day long.

I'm very concened.

OK I'll try that.

Trouble is I do get very hungry and eating bacon & egg everyday can't be good!!!

Has anyone got any low carb breakfast ideas?
