hi there, i am quite new to this site and i wondered if anbody would be kind enough to answer a few questions. I have not been diagnosed with diabetes, but i believe i am pre-diabetic. I am 36 years old, i have had gestational diabetes twice with my 2 boys one is 2 and one is 6. I am 5ft 2 and weigh only 7.5 stone. have had normal gtt but hba1c has been 5.9, 5.8, 5.7 and latest one 5.4
I had checked my blood glucose at work a couple of times as i work for nhs and i had a sandwich and a very small piece of swiss roll, checked my blood sugars 1 hr after and it was 8.5. I got some good advice on here and got a sd code free metre and thought i would start testing. i have been quite careful with my diet, and results have been good so far, been testing for 2 weeks now and the highest it went was to 7.2, most of the time it is around 6. always about 5 2 hours after. i always check about 1hr 30 mins after a meal to try to see what it goes up to. I have been eating the burgun bread and the coop wholemeal multiseed the smaller loafs , i have been walking every day for about 30 mins. That was until today!. ate 2 slices of granary bread, had two boiled eggs mixed with salad cream, no exercise. tested one hour after a meal went up to 9.6.? have tested again and is down to 7.6 at nearly 2 hours ?
so what is going on, doctor says not pre-diabetic, however because i am so anxious about this the dr has told me to go and see the diabetic nurse at the surgery. So do i need to keep testing, shall i see the nurse and go back and see the gp?
ive had lots of funny feelings in my feet i am really worried this is to do with this pre-diabetes.
oh and i don't know if this makes any difference, i hadn't checked the metre with the check strip, i put the check strip in and it said 'ok'. after this i have been getting the high results. would this have made any difference to the metre or does this just check it is accurate? sorry if that sounds a daft question!
any advice would be gratefully received.
thanks
