Hi I am not diagnosed but had eaten sugary cake at work (nurse) on Sunday, felt unwell two hrs or so later so checked urine for infection and saw glucose +++, (and infection as usual) did finger prick and was 11.5. I suspect pre diabetes or type 2. Had hb1ac yest and had fasted so did finger prick which was 6.5. Just waiting for results now fingers crossed

I am not a betting man but I'll put a tenner on pre diabetes Type 2. Your random test of 11.5 is higher than the 11 required and the fasting of 6.5 is in the range 6.5 to 7 which is pre diabetes.

There's definitely an impairment there.... you'd be right in saying at the least it is pre-diabetes. For me when I was first diagnosed with diabetes my hbA1c was 8.2% They don't like hbA1c over 7% and if it's over 8% they refer you to an endocrinologist for further testing (GAD and c-peptide tests).... they do that here anyhow, not sure what your health procedures are there. I'm sure being a nurse, you already have the knowledge on how it is treated, etc... I wish you the best.
