Being "at risk" i had my flu jab

then i got a cold

now ive got shingles

so no gym, in agony and feeling ****** off

grrrr

Sorry to hear that your under the weather, hope all gets better soon
You are not another one that is clearing the system in preparation for Christmas.

Mate I'm in my second week of dreadful cold, last cold I had was also after the flu jab, I'm convinced the flu jab is evil and will be swerving it from now on

Wish ya better

Yep, me too. I won't be having it next year either and I am asthmatic and really fear chest infections, but I'm convinced I would still be better off without one. Obviously I'm not advising anyone else to copy me, this is simply my personal choice.

Get well soon!

I personally am not having the jab done,my daughter had hers done as she is a student nurse and she came out with flu like symptoms after hers it lasted a few days.
Wishing you better soon.

Some flu vaccines have mercury in them which lowers the immune system for a short time so leaves you more liable to pick up a cold etc

I had no problem with mine, first one I have had,I was undecided because I have never had flu,but I was persuaded that my immune system isnt as good now.

well i have blotches and cold symptoms but at least i can sleep at night, tired but im going to the gym tomorrow, its only contagious by touch and then not everyone, ill keep my shirt on

had a week and half off from the gym, blisters on back and chest, theyve almost gone now

saturday i worked 10am-6pm on the taxi's, aching like hell, like ive had a good kicking

restarted gym on wednesday, feeling like a fat pig again

had a cone of fresh, hot proper chips saturday with salt and vinegar, god they were nice

only 10 school (and gym) days left this year, wanted to get into the 16 stone bracket (even 16st 13lb) but looks doubtful

Chin up Jack!
Start afresh in the New Year!
We can't control what the cold & flu bugs do to us!
Go for it mate! Get it off your chest! Rant away! We all get frustrated.

Keep the faith Jack. I just had my flu jab, always have, doesn't disagree with me but I know a few asthmatics who don't trust it. It is all about informed consent and personal choice. We are adults after all

Funny that after my flu jab I had the worst cold I can remember lasted nearly 2 weeks

I had flu jab last year and then suffered 5 months of constant colds, chest infections xrays and tests...

It was my first jab for years and I only succumbed as I am chairperson of the Patients group encouraging flu jabs.

So ill last year and so not had this year, despite being Chairperson still.
Never again. It was horrendous and never been so ill for such a long time.

Friends who have had flu jabs this year have all come down with colds for weeks and still have them. Me, nothing!!!!

Never, never again...

Hi @Jackthehat,

Shingles is very debilitating and the recovery period can vary between individuals.

The recovery time from shingles varies enormously. It is most frequently like flu – so you would expect two to three weeks of feeling unwell.

However, some people go on to have a much slower recovery than that.

The tiredness and general feelings of being unwell will most likely be gone within four weeks; and at most six weeks.

It is possible for pain in the area to continue to be a problem for much longer.

It is worthwhile taking a course of the herb, Echinacea (ask at your local pharmacy) which seems to be able to shorten the course of an infection.

Yours sincerely

I am surprised with the majority of No Thanks in the thread. Some conspiracy theory I've not latched onto yet ? Has that sore intra-muscular jab in the upper arm been in vain ? I need to be totally convinced to undo what to me is a diabetic safety net.

I'd totally forgotten about getting a flu jab after having been unwell while our surgery was having its flu jab days, and so was unwilling to have one at the time. I've not had a cold for probably 20 odd years, so if people are getting them after their jabs, I'll give mine a miss this time round.

Didn't think they used that any more?

I had the jab lasst year, not got round to it yet this year.

Didn't have it in the winter of 2012/13, had a dose of flu in Feb 2013, that's what triggered the T1.
