I am 60 and is diagnosed type 2 diabetes 15 years ago. I am 79 kilo. Iam also on hypertension and cholesterol medication. I am on Janumet 50/1000 two tablets a day.

My daily blood sugar reading ranged from 5.2 mmol/l to 6.6 mmol/l during fasting. After meal it can go up to 8.3 mmol/l .

Tested on October 2016 and Feb 2017 were the following results:
My HBA1C were 6.2% and 6.5% while my HbA1C IFCC were 44.3 and 47.5 mmol/mol.

I don't control my diet.

Is my blood sugar under control?

I believe exercise is best. I walk up slopes everyday for an hour covering 3 to 4 km.

Fasting readings are good......I would also say post meal readings are good, although some would try for better....

HbA1c is good to, at least for reducing the risk of complications......again, some other may try to get better....

you may not control your diet but it may be the case that the stuff you like to eat is favorable when trying to control BG...

Hi and welcome,

Are you happy with your current levels? If so, then that is fine. However, your HbA1c is creeping up and you need to keep an eye on that. A jump up from 44 to 47.5 is concerning as it is teetering near the diagnostic threshold for diabetes (48), and some of your fasting and post meal levels are also in the "at risk" range.

These are the recommended ranges for good control akin to a non-diabetic (although most non-diabetics are less than this)
before meals 4 to 5.9
at least 90 minutes post meal under 7.8.

For NHS acceptable control for type 2s
before meals 4 to 7
at least 90 minutes after food, under 8.5

If you rely totally on walking for control you have to be aware there may be times when walking is impossible due to illness, injury, etc. If I were you, looking at the fact your levels are trending upwards in the wrong direction, I would concentrate on your diet in addition to exercise.

I would be happy with those results 15 years down the road...

One telling think you say is 'don't control my diet'. Could you have a look at that perhaps? Your figures could be even better.
Have a look at this, maybe it will help??

I think your numbers are managed, you are so close to excellent control. I think there is some parity with what I used to do. I would work out well which would get my numbers down if you look at my signature. Once I embraced a better diet I got a cumulative impact of diet and exercise.

Diet is around 80% of the journey, so if you wanted to address this consider what your numbers could be.

I totally agree @kokhongw . Mind you if my results at 14yrs diagnosis was those without low carbing, id be ecstatic. Mine is only that good low carbing.
With a low carb diet he could smash those levels?
His choice.
His uncontrolled diet may be a lchf one, for all I know thou.

What do you describe as an uncontrolled diet @Gentman ?

I could have mislead when I said didn't control. I meant to say I ate normal. Carb I normally took all this while. Maybe I need to learn from here to reduce or moderate my intake to reduce the numbers.

Considering you have had diabetes for 15 years your levels are really good. Some people try to keep their levels down in the 4/5s at all times but for others their levels may always stay in the 5/6's before they eat and that is ok as are your levels after food they are within the recommended range. Some may prefer their levels to be lower others would be perfectly happy to have your levels
