I joined the forum some months ago and my fasting blood glucose was 4.8 and my HbA1c was 41.
My urine test was negative for glucose and ketones.
Six months have passed and last week these investigations were repeated and my fasting blood glucose is 4.9 and my HbA1c remains at 41.
My urine test repeated and was negative for glucose and ketones.
I eat sensible and my weight is 12 stone 3 pounds.
I do cardiovascular work out for 30 minutes 3 times a week averaging about 1.5 miles and 150 calories.
I am convinced this with the rise in my fasting blood sugar from 4.8 to 4.9 is evidence that I am now pre-diabetic and wonder what I should be doing.
Do I need referral to the Hospital for assessment and perhaps treatment?

You are worrying over nothing at all. There is no difference in reality between your two fasting glucose tests. There is an error margin and in any event, readings like that are perfectly normal and non-diabetic. HbA1c is getting close to the pre-diabetes line, but still under it. Stop worrying, and enjoy your life!

Thank you for your comments.
You see my worry is that my HbA1c is at the top of the normal range at 41.
If it goes about this I think 42 - 48 then I am pre-diabetic.
Is this correct - what can I do to bring it down below 41?

Yes, you are right, it is at the top of the non diabetic range, but your fastings are well below.

All you can do is tweak your diet. No doctor will medicate you with those results. Read round the forums and learn about the role of carbohydrates. Particularly starchy ones, potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, cereals and of course the sugary stuff. Reduce the quantities of those, keep to small portions and fill up on vegetables and non starchy foods. Diet is the key.

I don't see any negatives about going on a low carb diet, it's healthy for everyone. A1C alone is not an indicator of diabetes.

Hi,just been told I am pre diabetic with a reading of 6.5,what foods should I not be eating to get my levels down?all this is a complete surprise to me

It may be better if you start your own thread. You will then get a lot more answers and help. Have you worked out how to do this?
