ask your dr..I don't know if this will help, but it doesn't cost anything, there was a mouse study with low carb and kidney's that helped the mice

Cheers dude...although this makes the assumption there is enough of a functioning kidney left in me to improve on when there really isn't lol. Thanks though, I'll take a wee gander =).

going ketogenic on 30g of carb is what a lot of us are doing to lose weight and get BG under control and it's medically approved to treat epilepsy etc.
ask your Dr..it was a CKD mouse study, but it's worth looking at, even if it just helps a bit till you can get a transplant

I eat very little at the moment due to a drastically reduced appetite due to the CKD, and what little I do eat is, comprised primarily of carbs. The idea of any diet that reduces my overall intake of food for very little benefit doesn't appeal to me at all...but like I said, I'll take a look, do some research and have a think about it - thanks for the link.

it's not something you just jump into and should be approved by your Dr.
there are a lot of people on it not losing weight. they replace the carb energy with fat energy and don't lose weight.

@Andy_D85
In your shoes, its best really that you follow the diet advice that you have been given by your kidney specialist. To eat more fat and protein will impair how the good part of your kidney functions. I hope that you will be ok to have yr transplant even it means receiving a donated kidney from a relative. Although kidney dialysis is not the end of the world, if you can get away from needing it, then so much the better.
Look after yourself

At this stage I've been given NO diet advice, I believe there will be adjustments I'll need to make post-starting dialysis but from what I can read these are mostly to do with regulating the amount of fluid your body retains, for weight issues and to prevent other issues, from what I can gather anyway...the main reason they are 'happy' with my 'diet' as it stands is that I'm of a healthier weight than I should be for how low my kidney function and other blood results are looking, so whatever amounts of fats, carbs, protein etc I am currently taking in seem to be doing the job of at least stopping me from weighing <5stone lol.

There will be no transplants from relatives. Not because I don't have any or that if I asked they would be unwilling to help, but *I* will not accept a transplant from either a relative or a friend. It is absolutely NOT an option for me to consider as far as I am concerned. I would rather take my chances with dialysis and the transplant register lottery, than put someone I care enough about to class them as friend or family through an operation of that severity. I did this to myself through years of thinking I was going to live forever, I won't have anyone else suffer because of me.
