My husband was told after going to his gp for 3 yrs with problems of tingling feet and eventually walking on glass that a blood check was due. The results came back and was found that he had 9.8 blood count and to go and treat it as if he has diabetes. We are gobsmacked.....I read up at the library and have kept his sugar with a meter that I won to 5.6 -6.0. But I am still very unsure whether I should be doing anything else. This has all been down to diet. Is there anything else I should be doing please?

You need to discuss this with the doctor.
He/she should not have left you in this position.
What you have done so far is brilliant, seeing that it seems you've not had any support

Hi sabnat.

Has your husband been diagnosed as a Diabetic (Type) or just told that he needs to be careful to stop diabetes later on ? Pre-Diabetic in other words. A proper diagnosis would have involved more than one test usually.

Testing his Bg levelks is good, but you need to be more specific about when you are testing. A reading of 5 - 6 first thing in the morning is good, but what are the readings 2 hrs after meals ? They are very important.

Diet can work well for a lot of people. It does all depend on those Bg levels I mentioned above though as to whether it is controlled or not ?

Further advice from your GP/Nurse is required.

Thankyou for your help I am grateful.... My husband was classed as pre diabetic his Father is suffering badly with it.
