Hi everybody,

Apologies in advance - I am guessing this question has been asked before.....

Curiosity more than symptoms had me testing my own BG. My FBG's are anywhere between 5.8 and 6.1 - there has been a one off spike of 6.4.

All other readings are under 6.0 throughout the day after much sticking of my hands at random times as well as pre meal, 1 and then 2 hour post meal.

My diet is LCHF and I definitely sit on the chubby end of the weight spectrum and my exercise regime is non-existent currently but is just starting up again.

So my question - with these readings, how much of an issue is there ? I must admit, the cravings for things carb and sweet has now passed (hurrah !) so I am not finding it particularly awful. I have never been able to eat bread and am not a fan of pasta or rice. Sugar is my poison of choice :).

And finally, I am committed to continuing the LCHF diet and getting 30 mins exercise a day moving forward - is there anything else I can do to get these pesky fbg's down ?

Loving this site btw - ever since the first reading, I have been here every day !

Rgds,

SS.

Hi, Welcome :)

Have you been diagnosed ? your numbers are all within non diabetic levels but if your low carbing that isnt a surprise, i lchf and my numbers are also non db, keep up the diet and exercise :)

good luck

Thank you Andy - no I haven't although in previous years, doctors always seem to think just by the fact that I have fwat a*se, that I should be tested (charming). I had had couple of sugar binges in a stressful period recently and wasn't feeling great after. I moved three years ago and have yet to register with a GP - hence the self test 'just to see' etc. The LCHF diet had been in force for a month before the testing.

I think it was the FBG levels that make me think I am getting a warning. Too high according to guidelines ?

And yes, alarm set for exercise tomorrow morning .....;(

You have not been registered with a doc for three years? Maybe that needs sorting as it will be more faff if you are ever ill and need to register.

Agreed. :) years of good enough health (or so I thought) have left me a bit complacent.

And apologies for any confusion - I should have posted this one on the pre-diabetes forum.

Doing super well here :(

Hi. Your FBG is in exactly the right region for a non-diabetic. You may want to do some random checks on your BG just before and 2 hours after a main meal to see what you spikes are? If they are over 8-10 then there is a hint of diabetes. You appear to be doing all the right things to minimise the risk of T2. Keep up the Low-carb diet and if necessary reduce the fats/portion sizes down as well to keep the calories down for weight loss.

I'd agree, portion control if the weight needs to come off, that'll also help the pre diabetes.
