I am getting a new pump and saying goodbye to the old tubed "spirit" pump and looking forward to something smaller -
The Omnipod looks OK but the hand held electronic bit looks HUGE, cumbersome and over engineered. Really dont fancy carying that - an I phone - car keys - wallet etc.
The "JEWEL" one looks a bit littler and tidier - anyone know if you have to carry around a whopping great 1980 ,s calculator , type thingamy with that one as well ????.
OR ........forget all the above and answer this , "whats the smallest COMPLETE, I.E. pump and controller combined , tube free- pump system available" ??

We've just trialled the Omnipod and really like it. Having said that we have nothing to compare it to as my son has never worn a pump. We did look at the accu chek combo and thought that was very good and the handset had some better features than the Omnipod, but we just prefer tubeless.

We have been told that the handset on the Omnipod is going to be upgraded and the pods are going to be about 30/40% smaller, so this all bodes well for the device. There however some negatives, like pods failing and depending on what youn read can be as much as 20%.

Feel to PM me if you need anymore info and I'll try and answer any questions you have.

thanks will check back once Ive been updated - BTW just been on the Jewel website and they recon their newest pump will be controled from your I phone using a special bolus APP !!! now thats the kind of thinking I like .

That is simply pure genius!

if you hear more please keep us updated!

The Jewel pump looks amazing!! I love my Animas and I have another 3.5 years before I change but I'm excited about the prospect of how far pumps will have progressed by then. Just hope we can get funding for the better ones

In 3.5 years your blood sugar level chip that,l be planted under your skin in the back of your arm will be sending real time blood sugar readings to your tiny stick on pump - which will release the correct amount of insulin to keep you at exactly 5.6 - round the clock 365 days a year - ...where do I sign.

That's amazing, i'd never heard of the Jewel Pump until you mentioned it, I'll have to wait years before I can get our PCT's to sign off on it, excited though :)
