am type 2 and having carpel tunnel syndrome in my left wrist

have been a type 2 diabetic since 2006 and this year(2014) started getting pins and needles and aching in my left wrist and when i went to my doctor i told him about my wrist and was toldmit could be CTS which he has given me 2 types of tablet to releive the pain which isnt really helping very much and was also given the option of having the steroid injection or otherwise the operation has anyone else had either and had any complacations afterwards.

Are you on statins? I had bad sporadic pain in my hands whilst on statins which stopped when I stopped taking them.

Hi. I had an operation in 2008 on my right hand before being diagnosed. The OP is under local & done in about an hour. I did have the steroid injection twice first but it didn't work for me.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

T2, Metformin 850 Mg (1 tablet twice daily), venlafaxine 75mg (1 tablet daily), buscopan 10mg (2 tablets 4 times daily)
 
Hi Becky

Sorry I can't speak from experience but I did recently have numbness on the outer 2 fingers of my left hand along with achy wrist and put it down to ulnar nerve compression: the reason for this was that the achy wrist went away but not the numbness. I work on a PC all day - every day, play the piano and therefore put enormous pressure on my wrists (i.e. RSI) but thankfully, they are generally ok.

I had CTS in both wrists many years ago. I had them operated on to relieve the median nerve and never got anymore trouble. The op can be done as a day case and is well worth having done. Have you tried using a hand splint overnight which tilts your hand at an angle as that will relieve the pins and needles

I got told I had cps in my left wrist the day before yesterday (tingling and pain and numbness for months) and I was told to buy a support brace for my wrist and the physiotherapist said that they really do help.

Don't know anything about the op though sorry.

Hi Becky,
I am waiting to see a specialist to find out if I have CTS in both hands. Sometimes my arm from elbow down to fingertips goes totally numb, othertimes the two thumbs lose sensation and I cannot grip properly with them. I haven't had experience of the steroid injection in my hands but had it elsewhere and it didn't help the problem. Please let us know how it goes.
